30th
These have been some crazy times, indeed, and I am back to coughing up green bits of my lung. I am beginning to think I have some sort of chronic bronchitis that needs medical attention. I plan to go soon. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even FEEL sick but I have all this yucky stuff in my lungs/throat/tonsils, whatever. I plan to go to the doctor, so thank you to all of my friends who have been pushing me to do so since June.
Anyway, Saturday night I went to see this Charles Busch play my friend Elyse is producing called “Die Mommie Die.” It was really fun. Sunday night I went to go see my friends in TAB the Band play with their dad, Joe Perry, at the Annex on the LES to promote some Guitar Hero thing. It was pretty kick ass. They played songs from TAB, Aerosmith, Mr. Perry’s solo records,as well as some blues and Beatles’ covers. Highlights from the set were “Secretary’s Day” and “Helter Skelter.” Yesterday I went to a writers lunch with Charles Barkley, and last night my nemesis Tom flew in from North Carolina. We made fun of each other all night and watched four episodes of Weeds before passing out. Today I am swamped with work and listening to a bunch of these Tori bootlegs. I’ve got mixed feelings. I think Dan Phelps is pretty good for the most part, but his guitar snorking ruins “Siren” for me, and she still can’t sing “Big Wheel” to save her life for some reason, but “Code Red” really sounds great, as does “Bouncing off the Clouds.” I wish the vocal levels on “She’s Your Cocaine” weren’t so high, but I imagine they’ll have that better sorted the next time she plays it. I hope to hear “Virginia” at some point. I seem to be able to do the last few shows in California, work permitting. We’ll see.
