I am now 5-0 as an NFL fan, as my Cowboys just took out the hapless Bills. I once dated a diehard Bills fan, so I can attest to their haplessness on many levels.

I am enjoying this immensely, even though my allegiance to America’s team has lead to ridicule in many social situations. When I jumped on the bandwagon in early August, I had no idea that it actually ran on four greased wheels. According to the venerable wikipedia, the Cowboys have been something like 77-91 since 1997, so somebody must have put some kind of hallucinogenic in the Haterade.

Lying in bed in a hotel room in Brewster, Mass. right now watching the Yankees circle the drain. Speaking of dying a slow death, I’m on my second annual New England Leaf Peeping Trip, and I didn’t pack any closed toed shoes. It was 85 when I left Manhattan yesterday at 5 pm. Today at Walden Pond it was 51. I imagine that by the time I get to Maine tomorrow it will be -26.

Walden Pond was exactly the way I left it a year ago. I took Pirate to Sleepy Hollow Cemetary and he went flipping insane. He went into this strange sprint hop, wherein he’d squat down to sniff the ground, and then bounce to another location, gallop about ten yards, and then repeat the process. About a month ago he completely lost his mind in my apartment one day, and my doorman later informed me that the man living in the apartment below mine had passed away that day. Needless to say, I’m pretty sure my dog could find Natalee Holloway, and perhaps Jon Benet Ramsey’s killer.

I’ve never been to Cape Cod before, and it reminds me so much of what I love about Maine. We walked to the lighthouse in Chatham, frolicked on the beach, and had clam chowder and some kind of chicken chili at a local pub. I have no idea if anyone actually lives in these towns year round, or if most of the population is comprised of Boston elite who have their second homes here. Chatham is of the most serene places I’ve ever been in the U.S. Check it out if you get the chance.

Tomorrow I plan to get lost in a bunch of antique barns in New Hampshire. My apartment looks to be finished soon. Perhaps I will take some pictures of it, but I never feel like photos do a place any justice.

Speaking of which, I’ll have some shots from this trip up after I return on Saturday. I’m still undecided about whether I’ll go see Tori at the theatre at MSG on Friday. I guess it’s up to my traveling companions.
